About that Summer: Well, the minions were home with me full-time this summer for the first time since they were born. I knew it would be tough–I’m so not a kid entertainer–but we made it through it. Actually, it went kind of quickly except for the fact that I was dying to write. I think I mentioned it in my last update, but the second anomaly novel was soooooo close to being finished. I needed one solid week, maybe two to get the final revisions done, and then I could send it off to the copy editor.

But I quickly learned that I cannot write and be a full-time mom at the same time. I need uninterrupted blocks of time, and I don’t get that from my kids. Even if they’re playing together and leaving me alone, they’re loud, or they’re getting hurt, or they’re fighting. I ended up aggravated and short-tempered when I tried to write with them home, so I very unexpectedly quit working altogether. It just isn’t fair to them for their mom to get so annoyed so quickly. So, until the boys are older and don’t want so much interaction with me, I will officially be taking the summers off. No writing or social media or anything super time consuming between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Hope you guys understand! And please forgive me in the delay of getting the second book out. But there’s good news on that below. 🙂

Self-Improvement: Instead of writing this summer, I spent time with the kids and went to the gym a lot more than usual (free childcare for the win!). My favorite thing to do while exercising is to listen to podcasts. I listen to a lot of writing related podcasts (The Creative Penn, Smarty Pants Book Marketing, Sell More Books Show, and Writing Excuses), but I’ve also started listening to self improvement and productivity blogs. I’ve been feeling disorganized and lazy and like I’m a major failure for, oh, the past five years. I want to write more books, get more accomplished in my day, and feel like I’ve accomplished good things when I go to bed at night. The 5 a.m. Miracle is one of my favorites even though I’m not getting up at 5 a.m., but I also enjoy Michael Hyatt’s This is Your Life and The Chalene Show. I feel like I’m getting better. Not perfect and I know there’s tons of room for improvement, but I’m getting focused writing time in (thank you brain.fm!) and my to-do list is under control (thank you Wunderlist) and I’m hoping 2017 is the year I get two full length novels out. *crosses fingers*

New Cover Art: I’ve been sitting on the cover for SHADES OF HONOR all summer long. I love it just as much as I love the first cover, and Ash is such a badass! You guys are going to love this book! It’s fun, has tons of action, and lots of Ash and Rykus together. 🙂 I’m aiming for a November 2016 release date. It’s with my copy editor, so the exact release date depends on when I get the edits back. It’s possible it could be ready earlier. Anyway, here’s the cover. I’d love to hear what you think about it!
