(Quick note: the blog post below is full of lots of mistakes. You’ll see why as you read on, but I don’t want to make changes. I want to see if the accuracy of my posts increase over the summer. So I’m typing this part as a head’s up. And also I’m admitting that I fixed “T-Minus 2 days” and “Aren POV” because they were driving me crazy and I hadn’t yet decided to leave the errors in this post. But if you guys are totally confused on something and want me to clarify, let me know in the comments and I’ll decipher my dragon. 🙂
T-Minus 2 days until my boys are home for the summer. Five months of 2016 are already over. I’m excited for the summer, but also worried too. This will be the first summer that my boys are home full time. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get some writing done, but I’m not planning on it. But don’t worry. The second anomaly novel almost ready to publish. It out with beta readers right now, and after that it’ll need, but I should know very soon when it will be out on the virtual bookshelves.
Meanwhile, I’m writing a new Aren POV. Every time I write from his point of view, I remember how much I love and miss the shadow reader world. It will be five years in October since I published the first book, I should do something special. Will see.
I’ve also been doing a lot of brainstorming for the third anomaly novel. I love the first book, in the second book is pretty great too, but this third book I’m super excited about. Probably accident as excited as I’ve been about the previous two books, but some fun things happen. Fun as in really horrible things to do my character kind of fun.
I’m hoping real life cooperates and let’s the rest of this year be a good year. The end of last year majorly soft, and the beginning of this year has been… Interesting. We were struck by held twice. Which is so unusual. We’ve lived in this area for 11 years now, I’ve never had held image. So of course after the first hell storm, we contacted our insurance adjuster. They came out and very quickly cut us a check. And three days later we got hit by a second hell storm. We now have two broken windows. Will have to pay for that out of pocket. Fun.
Also fun is that we just now started getting our roof repaired. The roofers came out yesterday, and removed our roof, and started putting the new roof line, and then it started to rain. Yup we have a few leaks. I’m hoping it’s not major, and I’m hoping the roofer takes care of the little damage that has been called. So far I really, really like this company. They’ve been very responsive, and call to let us know what’s going on. Unlike many, many other contractors we’ve worked with. We’ll see how it goes. But I’m kind of done with the storms, and with real life interrupting my fictional writing life.
I have a few goals for the summer, in addition to wanting to get some writing done well my boys are home with me, I’m also going to try to train my Dragon. Yep, that’s right, I’m attempting to learn how to dictate. A lot of other authors have said that it and not only makes them write faster, but it also improves their writing. I can see that possibly working for me. I a bit of a perfectionist when I write, that means I’m always going back and correcting what I’ve written and re-reading what I’ve written. It makes my first drafts very, very slow. With dictation, it’s too hard to go back and edit as I write. But it’s also a really weird way to write a story. My brain just doesn’t function like that yet. But the authors who have stuck with dictation say that over time you learn how to think and phrases, and you get a lot better at it. So right now my practicing is with this blog post, and with a few other things I’ve done here and there. I have dictated some portions of books, and it feels so so terrible. Like every word I say is pulling teeth. But after dictating for five maybe 10 minutes, I stop. And I go back and read what I wrote. Every time I been surprised that what I’ve dictated is actually partly usable. I’ll write about 500 words in five or 10 minutes, and that plot will progress in while the writing might not be awesome, it’s really not that bad. So hopefully I will improve.
So, I know this blog post is going to have a lot of mistakes in it. But I’m not going to correct those mistakes. If there’s something really weird in here, it’s because of the dictation. If it sounds stilted, it’s because of the dictation. Things are misspelled, because of the dictation. Perhaps I can dictate a post every Wednesday to keep y’all updated. And maybe by the end of summer, my post will be mostly error-free?
Anyways, that’s what’s going on right now. What’s going on with you guys? Have you read any good books lately? That’s one of my other goals for the summer. I want to read more. I need some good recommendations for science fiction and fantasy books with a shot of romance. Let me know if you’ve discovered a new author a new book recently. Other than that, hope your June is off to an awesome start, and have a fantastic summer.
